Healthy Fruit & Nut Power Oatmeal

Healthy Fruit & Nut Power Oatmeal | Mmm oatmeal. A hot, toasty breakfast for cold winter mornings. This healthy power oatmeal is satisfying and luxurious without paying a tax to your waistline.

Every time I have lost a substantial amount of weight I have started off the day with this oatmeal. It's delicious, healthy and keeps hunger pangs at bay until lunch time so that you're not snacking on junk throughout the day. It's also a fantastic way to get carb cravings under control straight upon waking up. I use it as my fuel source to power me through the day and then have vegetables and proteins for the rest of my meals. This way, I can burn those carbs throughout the day and end on a light meal that won't just sit in the stomach and become fat in sleep. The natural high fiber content promotes a healthy digestive system and kicks your metabolism into hyperdrive.

Weight loss isn't the only perk of this oatmeal and it contains some awesome health benefits:

Oats- have been found to boost appetite-control hormones and boost immune system defenses.

Raisins- are a good source of iron, fiber and potassium.

Walnuts and almonds- walnuts are packed with omega 3 fatty acids, help reduce stress and can help prevent breast cancer. Almonds are linked with reducing heart disease and protect you from diabetes and cardiovascular disease. They also improve blood fats and help you lose weight.

Flax Seeds- high in fiber and omega 3 fatty acids, flax seeds have cardiovascular,anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits.

Fruits like bananas and raspberries- Bananas have a lot of potassium in them and raspberries are filled with healthy antioxidants.

Honey- prevents cancer and heart disease, improves recovery time for athletes, a natural bacteria killer, soothes coughs and sore throats.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffins Recipe

Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffins |

It's pretty much a known fact that something about the change from summer to fall switches on a woman's crazed obsession with all things PUMPKIN. Pumpkin spiced lattes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin this pumpkin that...everything about fall basks under the glorious reign of the mighty pumpkin.

That said, I decided the new lifestyle section of my blog simply would not be complete without throwing something--you guessed it--pumpkin out there for you to try. Delicious, sweet pumpkin amazingness might I add.

These muffins are a great twist on traditional pumpkin muffins. They have a heavenly cheesecake filling that makes every bite that much better. As they bake, the rich filling swirls to the top and peeks out to say hello.

The recipe is a mix of my friends' mother's brilliant concoction plus the inspiration of a few Pinterest recipes rolled into one mouthwatering mixture. They would be great for a fall-themed/holiday party, as a treat in your child's lunchbox or just because! You can serve these piping hot with vanilla icecream, eat them plain, or top them off with some cheese cream icing for decadent cupcakes.

To embark on this journey to deliciousness, you will need two mixing bowls--a large and a medium one--to mix all your ingredients. You will end up combining  the wet ingredients into the larger bowl holding the dry ingredients to create the pumpkin batter. You will then make the cheesecake filling separately and  layer it in between the pumpkin batter in a muffin baking tray. Once in the oven, they don't take long to bake and fill the house with the most fragrant, sweet spiced pumpkin aroma.

Lunch-Date Makeup and Cooking

It's here! The video of the collab with my friend and blogger, Erin, is finally live on my YouTube channel. Erin is the fabulous foodie behind the blog, Eating My Feelings. When she asked to do a collab fusing food and makeup, the fat kid in me couldn't resist since she is known for making mouth-watering delights.
We decided to do a natural lunch-date appropriate makeup that would highlight her features but not appear too overdone or made over. We both felt like many men usually believe less is more concerning makeup and so we concentrated on a bright, healthy, and natural makeup look.
The Doritos Shrimp Taco Salad recipe in this video was inspired by Erin's boyfriend who cannot get enough of Taco Bell. It's a healthy yet satisfying meal that both women and men can appreciate and enjoy.
So get ready girls and grab your boyfriend,! We hope you enjoy learning this makeup look and recipe.

Post-Thanksgiving Cinnamon Apple Lemon Detox

Everyone gets excited for Thanksgiving. Between the family time and the copious amounts of food and alcohol, your basically in an over-stuffed heaven. Most of us literally roll out of the house and proceed to be knocked out by a massive food coma.

Your visions of your future Victoria Secret Angel body though, does not get excited for Thanksgiving. Since most of us mere mortals over-indulge during this holiday meal (including myself--I'm pretty sure I ate double my own weight), our bodies can be bloated for days later and really set you back on the scales.

I decided that I would do a detox with a friend for a week in order to shed the extra water weight and cleanse and purify our bodies. After the week is over, I will make a follow up blog post discussing how I liked the detox and if it worked.

There are many different ways in which to detox your body. I chose to do one that was realistic, healthy and easy for almost everyone to do. This detox is especially great because it forces you to drink a lot of water. Cells in the body cling to fat when you don't drink enough and so when you are properly hydrated, it enables the body to literally "flush out" the bad fats in the body.

I, like many, am a huge culprit of living the camel lifestyle and not drinking nearly enough. I find it hard to force myself to drink something with no taste (however weird that sounds) and so this detox is wonderful because the water has a fresh, crisp taste to it that makes water drinking actually enjoyable.

Cinnamon Apple Lemon Detox:

Things you will need:

1 apple of any kind
1 lemon
1 cinnamon stick
purified water
a cutting board
a knife
a pitcher

The breakdown:
Lemon- cleanses impurities, aids in digestion, positively stimulates the liver, prevents growth of bacteria
Apples- natural source of caffeine and energy, source of vitamin C, immune boosting
Cinnamon- positive antioxidant effects, reduces inflammation

1. Cut the apple into thin slices
2. Place the apple slices and the cinnamon stick into pitcher
3. Slice the lemon into quarter pieces and squeeze into pitcher. Place rinds into pitcher.
4. Pour purified water into pitcher
5. Place in refrigerator and let sit for a few hours or overnight

--You can refill the water 4 or 5 times before you will need to replace the apple and lemon with fresh ones.
--For this detox, you should drink a 1/2 ounce of water per pound that you weigh
--Remember to eat clean foods during the duration of your detox. So stay away from foods high in sugars, fats and carbohydrates.
--Some detoxes require that you eat nothing for a period usually consisting of two days. However, as most of us have busy schedules, eating nothing is not realistic. This detox is to cleanse the body and encourage positive lifestyle changes.
