10 Beauty Steals Under $10

Sometimes more expensive doesn't always mean better. While I understand the "you get what you pay for" sentiment, on rare ocassions, you get what you pay for plus a massive bonus.
Honestly, if you scraped these products out of their tubes and compacts and into more expensive packaging with a fansy brand name, I would believe it. I would believe they were really high-end products being sold at a fair price. The gems I mention below are absolute steals that I think everyone should have in their makeup bag. The quality for the price is really mind boggling and will save you some big bucks if you're shopping on a budget.
1.) Milani Baked Blushes ($8.49)- These are incredible quality for the price and in my opinion, are extremely comparable to the MAC Mineralized blushes. The pigmentation is out of this world awesome and they are super blendable. I love the beautiful soft highlighted sheen they give to the cheeks. You get tons of product in its pretty gold packaging that certainly gives you a great bang for your buck. I love the peachy-coral color "Lumeneso" for summer and the wine color, "Red Vino."
2.) Rimmel Show-Off Lip Lacquer ($4.99)- I'm obsessed with these liquid lipsticks! The doe foot applicator has a little pocket that deposits the perfect amount of product for each use. They go on so comfortable and stay that way throughout the day and even with multiple applications. For a drugstore lipstick, the longevity is incredible. I love how beautifully these wear and slowly fade to leave a nice tint to the lips. Added bonus: they smell fruity and amazing like a Jolly Rancher.
3.) Real Techniques Brushes- bought separately, each of these runs for under $10. My favorites are the powder brush ($9.99) and the blush brush ($8.99). They are softer than a baby's butt and only have minimal shedding over time. These brushes are definitely professional quality for an unbeatable price (good brushes run expensive now adays). The bottom of each brush is flat so you can even stand them upright if you want. You can find a full list of my favorite Real Techniques brushes and other makeup brushes in this blog post and an easy tutorial on how to wash and take care of your brushes in this blog post.
4.) e.l.f Glitter Primer ($2.00)- Super comparable to Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue, this is definitely the more affordable dupe. I lightly pat this over my eye area and use it to hold down messy loose glitter. It keeps the glitter on all day and is just wonderful!
5.) Jordana Easy Liner ($1.99)- These lipliners are just so easy to use. It has an easy retractable top so you don't have to bother with sharpening and they go on silky smooth. They wear for a decent amount of time considering they are so cheap and not advertised as a long-wearing product. I always have one of these in my purse for quick touchups. My favorite colors are a brown-nude, "Rock n' Rose" and a mauve color, "Tawny."
6.) NYX Slim Lip Pencil ($3.50)- These remind me of the MAC lip liners in their consistency and texture. I love the endless array of colors to choose from so that you can match almost any lip color. You can easily find the color you're looking for by the swatch at the end of the pencil. They go on smooth and creamy and I would honestly choose a lot of these over the more expensive MAC pencils.
7.) Maybelline Eyestudio Gel Liner ($7.99)- Again, another amazing product for the price. I am always amazed at how it never smudges once it sets on the eyes and the dark color pigment it delivers. I even wore this on my wedding day over more expensive gel liners because I knew I could trust it not to budge. It gives a great matte line once on the eye. My favorite color is "Blackest Black."
8.) Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser ($6.99)- This is basically an exact dupe for the Benefit Porefessional Primer. It has the same silky smooth texture on the skin and primes the face and fills the pores almost just as well. I've honestly never seen a massive difference with either primer (if you have huge pores like me it ain't gonna totally fill in those holes to China), but I do believe it creates a smoother base for your foundation to easily glide over top.
9.) NYC Liquid Liner ($2.99)- The amazingness of this cheapo liquid liner is pretty much mind boggling. It's dirt cheap but makes applying liquid liner simple--even for beginners. It has a stick thin wand and applicator that makes controlling where product goes a synch. I love to do my winged liner with this and then apply a black eyeshadow on top just to ensure it won't be going anywhere. I use this method a lot to keep eyeliners in their place.
10.) NYX Butter Gloss ($5.00)- This smell like legit cake and I'm tempted to eat it on a daily basis. This is one of the smoothest, creamiest lipglosses I have ever applied. It doesn't feel sticky and gooey and really does go on like butter. It has a beautiful light to medium wash of pigment that is the perfect topping over my favorite lipsticks. I only have one at the moment but I kinda want to buy them all (tee hee...)

Just Hit Shelves | Drugstore Edition

Like a makeup ninja, I prowled through the cosmetic section of Target the other day to scout out the latest products and get the 411 on the newest beauty items. Not gonna lie, I definitely felt like that awkward person you might spot during the occasional outing who talks to themselves while stroking their cat in their pajama bottoms and fur coat. Yeah. I was that person trying to inconspicuously snap photos of products and fervidly writing notes as I moved down each aisle. Le sigh. The life of a weirdo beauty blogger.
Aside from looking like a total crazed lunatic, I found it really fun and even therapeutic to take a break from moving into the new apartment and take a chill pill for a second in the glorious, air-conditioned Target oasis. If you can't tell, I love Target (like most girls) with a strange passion that I can't quite describe. Maybe it's the way the aisles are arranged so perfectly or all the bright, happy colors. It's probably the cute clothing and the fact that a Starbucks wonderland can be found inside each one. Whatever the reason, be it my weary, tired-of-moving-into-new-places pregnant hormonal self or that I'm obsessed with makeup, I was particularly thrilled to be there that day.

There are probably a million more new products out in other drugstores (like Walgreens, CVS, Rite-Aid, etc.) but these were the ones I specifically found at Target and the ones that excited me the most.

New From Maybelline:

Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation ($8.99)- Maybelline describes this as "a breakthrough liquid foundation texture" that "fuses with skin" and provides an "impeccable, yet undetectable" finish. It's medium to full coverage and works well with normal skin types. The line seems to have quite a lot of shades--I saw 12 different shades on the display rack in Target. I was disappointed with the measly amount of product listed on the bottle (0.6 ounces). The average foundation has at least 1 ounce so that was definitely a big con for me. The few reviews of this foundation I've seen compare the texture and wear of the product to be similar to L'Oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder Foundation

Maybelline The Nudes Palette ($9.99)- I was literally SO excited to see a drugstore brand release a large palette of convenient every-day nudes like this. The price is also incredible and works out to be 83 cents a shadow (there are 12 eyeshadows). The palette has a great assortment of both warm and cool shades which is great for creating lots of different looks. I snatched up the very last one on the display below and can't wait to review the palette to see what it's like concerning quality and blendability.
Maybelline Master Kajal ($7.99)- Maybelline describes this as their "first liner designed for an easy glide along the inside line." Apparently it's also waterproof, "infused with luxurious oils", and provides all day wear. The line comes in 4 shades--black, brown, gray and an intense royal blue. I didn't pick up this particular product since I usually don't line my waterline with dark colors but I might want this for my kit if it's really as long wearing in the waterline as it says.
Maybelline Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara ($7.77)- Maybelline describes this as, "our biggest mascara brush with the double curved stem delivers a double shot of mascara." They also claim that "the smoother formula with double the collagen plumps without clumps." The packaging immediately drew me to this product with its bright, neon pink and yellow look. I know that sounds kinda bad, but I am such a sucker for pretty packaging and the marketing totally reels me in like a sucker sometimes. I am excited to try this out as I have had a lot of great experiences with Maybelline's mascaras.
Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal ($3.49)- I have honestly never even tried the original baby lips so I can't say much from personal experience but so many beauty bloggers rave about this lip balm. This is a new extension of that line which has 6 new shades with "a kiss of shimmer." Maybelline claims that this new lip balm has "micro crystal particles" and that it "visibly renews lips in 1 week."

New From L'Oreal:

L'Oreal Visible Lift Blur Foundation ($14.99)- L'Oreal claims that this foundation "blurs the look of lines, wrinkles an uneven texture while delivering the anti-aging benefits of Visible Lift..for a fresh, smooth youthful finish you'll love." I have never tried any of L'Oreal's anti-aging foundations (since I'm only 22!) but I have heard a lot of great reviews from others. There seemed to be a huge color range to choose from at Target!
L'Oreal Visible Lift Blur Blush ($11.99)- With the same technology as used in its partner foundation of the same name, this is described as providing a youthful and blendable color to the cheeks. I actually almost bought one of these despite the anti-aging advertising just because the colors looked so beautiful and the idea of blush in a tube isn't something you see every day. There are 3 summery pinky-coral shades.
L'Oreal Collection Privée Lipsticks ($5.99)- I recently picked up two colors from this line at my local Walgreens but Target seems to have a larger selection of these lipsticks. For a full review, check out this blog post
L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara ($7.99)- L'Oreal calls this "one of their most exciting innovations yet" with an "asymmetrical lash line shape" that extends and lifts out corner lashes to give you a winged-out effect."

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Excess Mascara ($8.95)- L'Oreal describes this as a mascara that "builds volume with clean definition for an excessively dramatic lash look." They also claim that their millionizer brush is "bigger than ever to separate and build each lash evenly from root to tip."
L'Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga Mascara ($6.59)- L'Oreal claims that this mascara has "a 360 flexor brush to build bold volume with high intensity from top to bottom." They also claim that it has a "unique conical shape to catch those hard to reach lashes with an incredibly even application." I thought the little anime panda bears on the packaging were so stinkin' CUTE.

New From Revlon:

Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain ($7.49)- Coming in a wide range of 11 colors, Revlon describes these as an "ultra-light creamy lipstain with Vitamin E and Aloe" and that it "drenches lips in a glossy wet color." All of the colors look so pretty to me but I held off on buying one at the time. The reds, corals and oranges look so beautiful to me and so I might grab a few next time.
Revlon ColorStay Photo Ready Skinlights ($11.99)- Revlon describes this as a skin illuminator that can "banish dullness and even out skin with light capturing crystals and photochromatic pigments for a lit-within look." I swatched one of the lighter shades on my hand (since the bottle had already been opened--shame on you random person) and it seems like this would be a decent product to mix in with foundation to create more glow to the skin. It felt way to sheer to use as a cheek highlight that you would actually notice.

Drugstore Lipsticks I've Been Loving This Spring

These past few months of spring I have really been loving a few shades in particular concerning drugstore lippies. The shade of lipstick I wear is really dependent on the mood I'm touting that day. Soft nudes and springy pinks for days I want to feel pretty and feminine and bright corals, hot pinks and fiery reds for days I want to feel bold and flame on in fierceness like Beyonce. These colors can easily transition into the summer time as well and so I'll probably be wearing these shades for the upcoming months. No doubt I'll add some new favorites to the list for summer--I'm pretty much Dora the Explorer when it comes to beauty supplies. You can play Swiper and grab these lippies at local drugstores like Walgreens, CVS and Ulta

NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in "Natural"

NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in "Natural" is a  beautiful, creamy color that applies as a liquid lipstick and dries to a matte finish. Once dried, these are pretty long lasting (especially when a lipliner is worn underneath). For a matte lip product, these matte lip creams are surprisingly very comfortable to wear and don't dry or crack the lips.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Primrose"

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Primrose" is a milky baby pink color that is the epitome of femininity. Although pretty and light in color, it definitely pops on the lips and delivers great hydration and comfortable wear. Staying power isn't too stellar but the color is what keeps me coming back. Once applied, it keeps a subtle, glossy finish that looks extra beautiful when paired with a sheer lipgloss over top.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in "Tropical Coral"

L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in "Tropical Coral" is a coral lipstick that leans to the more orange side. It feels very hydrating on the lips with a subtle dash of shimmer which creates a lovely sheen. I wish L'Oreal would ditch the grandma packaging of these lipsticks but the product inside is great!

Maybelline Vivid Collection Lipstick in "Vivid Rose"

Maybelline Vivid Collection Lipstick in "Vivid Rose" is definitely one of those "Wow!" show- stopping colors with its bright magenta/hot pink color. This color is incredibly pigmented and hydrating and goes on easily in one or two swipes. People always ask me what color I'm wearing when I sport this and it's definitely for those days I feel bold, bright and alive.

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer in "Aurora"

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer in "Aurora" is red-coral color that applies so gorgeously to the lips and feels absolutely to-die-for buttery smooth. I love the doe foot applicator because it has a little pocket in the middle that picks up the perfect amount of product every time. This prevents you from applying way too much and so application is easy despite its liquid lipstick form. I recommend wearing these with a lipliner underneath because they do bleed a bit on the outer edges.
Let me know what your favorite lip products of spring have been and which ones you think you'll be wearing into summer! I'm always looking for new shades to sport. :)

Top 5 Favorite Drug Store Concealers

Top 5 Favorite Drug Store Concealers
With summer coming to a close and early morning wakeup calls looming near, it's time to arm ourselves with concealer for impending dark circles of doom and raging stress-induced blemishes.
Finding a great concealer at the drugstore that brightens, conceals and stays put can seem almost like an urban myth to some. As a makeup junkie that has tried almost every concealer at the drugstore, I have narrowed down a list of my top five favorites. Not only are they all wonderful, but I even think that some of these rival high-end concealers I have tried.
Below I have included a swatch of each concealer. I also blended two layers of each concealer over a freckle on my hand so that you could see the color, coverage and consistency of each one.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Top 5 Favorite Drug Store Concealers
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in "Fair". Left: Swatch of concealer. Right: Concealer blended on freckle.
This concealer is light and creamy with a very buildable consistency. Although it is not as heavy as the other concealers shown below, it is very pigmented and so it covers under eye circles beautifully. It doesn't settle into fine lines or wrinkles. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a concealer with a natural skin-like appearance.
Top 5 Favorite Drug Store Concealers
Revlon PhotoReady Concealer in "Fair". Left: Swatch of concealer. Right: Concealer blended on freckle.
This is one of my favorite concealers of all time. It has a gorgeous thick, rich texture without appearing cakey or fake on blemishes or underneath the eye area. The stick applicator is very easy to apply and great for quick makeup application or touch-ups. It is surprisingly buildable for its thick consistency. For an "awake" and highlighted effect, I will choose this in a very light shade to achieve the "Kim Kardashian" look.
Top 5 Favorite Drug Store Concealers
Maybelline Dream Lumi Touche Concealer in "Radiant". Left: Swatch of concealer. Right: Concealer blended on freckle.

This is hands-down the best concealer at the drugstore for dark under eye circles. It not only conceals wonderfully, but it brightens and corrects the under-eye area with its salmon-pink undertones. This is definitely a great dupe for other high-end brightening concealers like MAC Prep + Prime Concealer or YSL Touche Eclat. A must-have for those of you who don't get much sleep!

Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer

Top 5 Favorite Drug Store Concealers
Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in "Fair/Light". Left: Swatch of concealer. Right: Concealer blended on freckle.

This concealer is great if you suffer with a dry under-eye area. The formulation is extremely hydrating and gives the skin a healthy, dewy glow. If you prefer concealers that are more warm and yellow in undertone, then you will definitely love this. I just wish that Rimmel would come out with a wider color -range for this one!

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer

Top 5 Favorite Drug Store Concealers
Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in "Fair". Left: Swatch of concealer. Right: Concealer blended on freckle.

Like the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, this is also luxuriously light and airy feeling when applied underneath the eye area or on blemishes. It looks very natural and effortless looking on the skin and does a good job of brightening the area in which it is applied. Many bloggers and YouTubers absolutely rave over this one.

What's New at the Drugstore

So many products. So little time. Actually, just kidding. I definitely spent at least an hour in the drugstore playing with the billion and one new products and trying to decide what to buy. Hopefully, this video will give you a good idea of some of the new products available and what to choose!
