If you ever think that your makeup routine is kinda "blah", then let me introduce you to 3 pencil friends of mine. Incorporating these 3 pencils into your daily makeup routine will drastically enhance your look--making your features look stronger, more symmetrical and beautifully enhanced.
If you already use these 3--great, you know what I'm talking about. If not, then use all or a combo of these simple pencil additions to change your makeup routine into magical, face transforming awesomeness this new year:
1.) Eyebrow Pencil
Filling in your brows with a pencil adds volume and definition that makes you look much more youthful and beautiful. To us humans, we perceive symmetry as beauty. In test groups, scientists asked people from a variety of different races and cultures to point to which version of a picture was the most beautiful and the overwhelming majority pointed to the perfectly symmetrical face. Filling in your brows gives the illusion that your face is more symmetrical and gives you sharper features. Even if you already have dark, thick brows, a pencil can add that extra bit of arch or clean up a patchy spot. My favorite eyebrow pencil of all time is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz or its drugstore dupe, Maybelline Define-A-Brow.
2.) White Eyeliner
I hardly ever line my waterline with black pencils anymore. It makes the eyes look much smaller and can easily become harsh looking. I think white pencils should be incorporated into every single woman's makeup routine--yes, I think it makes that big a difference. Lining the waterline with a white eyeliner pencil makes them look more open, awake and much larger.
I use white pencil by my tear ducts too to make the eyes look farther apart (more model-like) and brighten up any shadows cast by the nose. Used under the brow bone, white pencil serves as a great matte white highlight, cleans up the brow area and creates a stronger and higher looking arch. A great, cheap pencil I use all the time for this is the NYX Glide-On Liner in "Pure White."
3.) Lip Liner
I think a lot of people have it stuck in their heads that if you use lip liner, you will:
- 1.) automatically transform into a chola
- 2.) look insanely old and out dated.
Throw out that logic right now and welcome yourself to your new and improved, lip liner filled 2015. Lip liner accomplishes a slew of wonderful, Harry Potter magic things like making your lips appear larger and poutier, preventing your lipstick from smearing and bleeding, creating a more symmetrical mouth shape, and locking on your lipstick all day.
To create fuller lips, slightly overdraw your lip line with a pencil a shade or two darker than the lip color you will be using. This creates shadows that make your lips appear multi-dimensional and much larger. To seal in the lipstick all day, completely fill in your lips with a liner before applying your lipstick. My favorite lip liners are the NYX and MAC ones.
